2025
Another exciting Inland Empire Challenge is in the books. As we celebrated the 25th Annual Challenge that doubles as the County Championships for both Riverside and San Bernardino counties, there was little doubt that the runners came well prepared for excellent performances.
The defending champs from 2024 did not disappoint as Santiago dominated the Girls’ Sweepstakes race and Martin Luther King showed they were the class of the field on the Boys’ side. The Girls’ race was a much closer affair as Murrieta Valley put 4 girls in the top ten compared to Santiago’s 3. The Sharks’ depth came through helping squeek out a narrow victory 39 to 43. Individually, Braylin Combe ran an outstanding solo run, 16:21 followed by Elizabeth Jacklin’s 16:41, cementing each girl’s place in the top 5 all time runners in IEC history.
The Boys’ race was also a fairly close affair with MLK scoring a 24 point win over an excellent Ayala Bulldog team. The two teams scored the first 5 places of the race with Maximio Zavaleta finishing in an excellent 14:22, sixteen seconds ahead of Sophomores Bryson Caganap and Jack Paz, 14:42! Another upcoming So. From Hesperia helped to set the pace early on ran under 15 minutes, 14:59. He was preceded by two other MLK Seniors, Bradley Quesada and Logan Carlson.
