Saturday, October 19th was the 24th annual Inland Empire Challenge, the invitational that determined the San Bernardino and Riverside County Champions in high school Cross Country. This year’s event, held at Ontario’s Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park, featured some of the best runners in California, and the fastest female Cross Country runner in the Nation, Rylee Blade.
Rylee and her Corona Santiago teammates once again claimed the Inland Empire and Riverside Country titles. Rylee led right from the start, finishing in an amazing 15:49.5, 12 and a half seconds faster that her fantastic win from last year. And... the course this year was a little longer (2.98 - 2.99
This year’s Sweepstakes race, loaded with Inland Empire talent, was left far behind Rylee's blazing race, setting an all time record in the event's 24 year history. 2nd place runner, Nicole Alfred, was a podium finisher in last year's California State CC Championships.

The Boy’s Sweepstakes race, Woodcrest Christian's, outstanding Senior, Eyan Turk reestablished his dominance of the Inland Empire as he bested Maximilio Zavaleta from Martin Luther King. The two battled for the lead up to the final half mile. Eyan won convincingly after that, 14:23 to 14:33. Freshman, Bryson Cagnap, Ayala, burst onto the scene with an outstanding 14:59 to take the 3rd place award. He was the third fastest runner in the Inland Empire!
The team bragging rights to the Inland Empire title were claimed by the deep team strength of Martin Luther King. Runner up, Ayala, finished a close second to MLK, claimed the San Bernardino County Championship, while MLK took home the trophy for Riverside County.
The Cucamonga-Guasti Park country course is the most spectator friendly fans have seen this year. The flat design produced fast times once again, this year.
